Jewish Hip-Hop Workshops
Join rapper and producer Yo-Natan Gutstadt, as he makes beats, writes rhymes, and records a brand new Jewish hip-hop song right in front of your eyes! Learn to use professional, digital sound programs such as Ableton Live and Reason, as well as sound equipment microphones and midi keyboards. The toughest part is combining the wisdom of Judaism with the flow of hip-hop.
The “Jewish hip-hop workshop” gives people the musical experience they need to believe in themselves as artists, as well as enhances their Jewish intellectual abilities. In this 2-hour workshop, I recreate a traditional Jewish song, prayer, or topic into a hip-hop song with the help of my engaged audience. As I show the workshop audience how to make an instrumental, we write rhymes together based on the theme of the song or idea we are recreating. Children and adults alike are encouraged to showcase their musical abilities and sing on the musical recording. At the end of the workshop, I give the community a CD with their original song on it. This experience lasts a lifetime.
Workshops are great for middle school and high school students at Jewish day schools, synagogues, or summer camps. Previous workshop participants include Camp Alonim, Chico Havurah, Berkeley Jewish Music Festival, Brandeis Hillel Day School, International and M.A.R. BBYO, and more…
